Despite that daily decrease, the current price remains approximately $1.08 above the year-ago average of $2.8869. The annual increase works out to 37.5%, based on Jax Times calculations using AAA figures.
For a driver purchasing 15 gallons, the current metro average translates to approximately $59.55. The same quantity would have cost approximately $43.30 at the average price one year ago. That makes the difference $16.25 per fill-up, based on the unrounded AAA figures.
Jacksonville's regular gasoline average also remains below its record high of $4.8828, reached June 13, 2022. Thursday's average was approximately 91 cents below that record. The comparison shows that prices remain below their historical peak even as they exceed last year's levels.

Florida's statewide average stood at $3.9629 Thursday, which rounds to $3.96 per gallon. The Jacksonville metro average of $3.9701 was slightly higher than the statewide figure. Both averages dropped below $4 after decreases from the previous day.

Jacksonville Runs 26 Cents Below the U.S. Average, While Georgia Is Cheaper
The national average for regular gasoline was $4.2258 Thursday, or approximately $4.23 per gallon. Jacksonville's $3.9701 average was about 26 cents lower than the national figure. The national average has declined from $4.4558 a month ago but remains approximately $1.19 higher than the $3.0384 recorded one year earlier.
Georgia's statewide average was $3.62, according to AAA, approximately 34 cents below Florida's $3.96 average. Both state figures are AAA averages for regular unleaded on the same day. Florida's average was still about 26 cents below the national figure on Thursday.
AAA's Oct. 22 weekly report said the national average had declined 6 cents over the preceding week to $4.27. The organization cited the transition to cheaper winter-blend gasoline as one reason for the decline, while crude oil prices near $100 per barrel amid instability in the Strait of Hormuz limited the decrease. AAA said October was poised to become the most expensive October on record, following records in August and September, and reported that West Texas Intermediate crude settled at $97.15 that Wednesday.
Gas Station Prices We Checked Thursday Morning
Jax Times checked posted online gasoline prices at four Costco and RaceTrac locations across Duval, St. Johns, Clay and Nassau counties at 6 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. All four stations listed regular gasoline below their respective county averages at the time of the check. These prices are snapshots rather than guaranteed pump prices, and Costco requires a membership to purchase gasoline.
| Station and location | Posted price | Below county average |
|---|---|---|
| Costco, 8000 Parramore Rd., Jacksonville | $3.70 | 29 cents |
| Costco, 215 World Commerce Parkway, St. Augustine | $3.80 | 18 cents |
| RaceTrac, 3106 Hwy 17, Green Cove Springs | $3.73 | 16 cents |
| RaceTrac, 463946 S.R. 200, Yulee | $3.91 | 6 cents |
The Costco station on Parramore Road had the lowest posted price among the four locations checked, at $3.70 per gallon. That was 29 cents below Duval County's $3.99 average, representing a potential savings of $4.35 on 15 gallons. The St. Augustine Costco listed $3.80, or 18 cents below St. Johns County's average, which equals $2.70 on 15 gallons.
RaceTrac's Green Cove Springs location listed regular gasoline at $3.73, compared with Clay County's $3.89 average. That 16-cent difference would equal $2.40 on 15 gallons, while the Yulee RaceTrac's $3.91 price was 6 cents below Nassau County's average, or 90 cents on 15 gallons. These comparisons use the posted station prices and county averages from Thursday, Oct. 29.
Station prices can change during the day, and the prices above are the ones posted at the 6 a.m. check. Jax Times did not average or adjust them. Because the review covered only selected stations that publish prices online through Costco and RaceTrac, these locations are not necessarily the cheapest stations in their counties, and readers should confirm current prices before purchasing.
## How we did this Jax Times used AAA gasoline averages dated Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, including national, state and metropolitan figures published through gasprices.aaa.com, along with county averages obtained through the Jax Times daily data pull from AAA. We compared current figures with AAA's previous-day, previous-week, previous-month and year-earlier averages, and calculated percentage changes, price differences and 15-gallon costs using the underlying unrounded figures. We also reviewed AAA's Oct. 22 weekly gasoline report and checked regular gasoline prices posted online by Costco and RaceTrac at 6 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29. Station prices can change during the day, so all prices in this story are labeled as of Thursday, Oct. 29.
