Jacksonville and St. Augustine High School Football: Where Every Team Stands, and the Games to Watch Friday
A packed stadium and players in action during a high school football game in Northeast Florida.

Three district races to watch
5A District 2 is a Duval vs. St. Johns battle. Mandarin (4-0) leads, followed by Nease (3-1). Bartram Trail and Ponte Vedra are both 2-2, then Fletcher (1-3) and Beachside (0-4). All six play each other Friday: Bartram Trail at Mandarin, Ponte Vedra at Nease and Beachside at Fletcher. If Bartram Trail and Ponte Vedra both win, Mandarin would sit at 4-1 with Nease, Bartram Trail and Ponte Vedra all one game back at 3-2.
6A District 1 runs through St. Johns County. Creekside (4-0) and Tocoi Creek (3-1) sit on top. Sandalwood (2-2) is the best Duval team in the district, and it plays at Tocoi Creek Friday. A Sandalwood win would pull it even with Tocoi Creek at 3-2.
2A District 3 comes down to Friday. Andrew Jackson and Bolles are both 2-0. Friday's winner has the inside track.
The best teams by point differential
A team's record tells you whether it wins. Point differential, points scored minus points allowed, tells you by how much. Here are the top 10 across Duval and St. Johns counties:
| Rank | Team | Record | Differential | Points per game | Allowed per game |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Episcopal | 9-0 | +334 | 46.9 | 9.8 |
| 2 | St. Augustine | 8-0 | +250 | 40.9 | 9.6 |
| 3 | Raines | 8-0 | +210 | 35.5 | 9.3 |
| 4 | University Christian | 6-3 | +180 | 35.7 | 15.7 |
| 5 | Mandarin | 7-1 | +169 | 34.8 | 13.6 |
| 6 | Andrew Jackson | 7-1 | +163 | 31.9 | 11.5 |
| 7 | Bolles | 5-2 | +161 | 37.4 | 14.4 |
| 8 | Paxon | 7-2 | +157 | 31.7 | 14.2 |
| 9 | Creekside | 6-2 | +139 | 32.1 | 14.8 |
| 10 | Ed White | 6-2 | +98 | 37.1 | 24.9 |
A few things stand out:
- The three unbeatens are also the three most dominant teams. Episcopal, St. Augustine and Raines each allow fewer than 10 points a game.
- Raines has the stingiest defense in either county, at 9.3 points allowed per game, just ahead of St. Augustine (9.6) and Episcopal (9.8).
- University Christian is better than its 6-3 record. Its +180 differential ranks fourth, ahead of several teams with fewer losses.
- Friday's Bolles at Andrew Jackson game is as close as it looks on paper. The two teams are 6th and 7th, separated by just 2 points of differential. Bolles scores more per game (37.4 to 31.9), and Andrew Jackson allows fewer (11.5 to 14.4).
- Ed White can score with anyone. Its 37.1 points per game is fourth-best in either county, but it allows nearly 25.
By the numbers
- Best scoring offense: Episcopal, 422 points in 9 games
- Best defense in Duval: Raines, 74 points allowed in 8 games
- Best defense in St. Johns: St. Augustine, 77 points allowed in 8 games
- Teams with winning records: 10 of 23 in Duval and 4 of 9 in St. Johns
- Highest-scoring St. Johns team: St. Augustine, 327 points
- Still looking for a first win: Atlantic Coast (0-8)
