Duval and St. Johns School Calendars 2026-27: Every Day Off Left This School Year, Side by Side
A desk setup featuring an academic calendar and student planner for the 2026–27 school year.
The first grading period is over, and the next stretch of the school year runs straight into the holidays. If you're planning a trip, booking child care, or just trying to remember when the kids are home, here's every remaining day off for Duval County Public Schools and the St. Johns County School District.
Both calendars come from the districts' official, board-approved 2026-27 calendars.
The short version:
- Both districts are closed the whole week of Thanksgiving, Nov. 23 to 27.
- Winter break starts Monday, Dec. 21 in both districts. St. Johns students go back a day earlier than Duval students.
- Spring break is March 15 to 19 in both districts, but Duval students get two extra days off before it.
- The last day of school is Friday, May 28, 2027, in both districts.

Thanksgiving: the whole week off in both districts
This is new for Duval. The School Board approved an updated calendar in April that closed schools for all five days of Thanksgiving week, instead of having students come in for a short two-day week.
The district said parents and employees "overwhelmingly" supported the change. Attendance that week has historically been low. To make room, the district moved some teacher training days and cut one weather day.
St. Johns County schools are also closed all week, Nov. 23 to 27. Two of those days, Monday, Nov. 23, and Tuesday, Nov. 24, are marked on the St. Johns calendar as possible hurricane make-up days (more on that below).
Winter break
Last day of school before break: Friday, Dec. 18, in both districts. It's also the end of the second grading period.
Back to school:
- St. Johns: Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2027
- Duval: Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2027
Duval students get one more day because the district has a teacher planning day on Jan. 4 and a professional development day on Jan. 5. St. Johns has a teacher planning day on Jan. 4 only.
Counting weekends, winter break is 17 days for St. Johns students (Saturday, Dec. 19, through Monday, Jan. 4) and 18 days for Duval students (Dec. 19 through Tuesday, Jan. 5).
Long weekends to plan around
Here are the three-day and four-day weekends left this school year:
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Saturday, Jan. 16 to Monday, Jan. 18, both districts.
- Presidents Day:
- St. Johns: a four-day weekend, Friday, Feb. 12 to Monday, Feb. 15, because Feb. 12 is a teacher training day.
- Duval: a three-day weekend, Saturday, Feb. 13 to Monday, Feb. 15.
- Good Friday: Friday, March 26 is off in both districts, the Friday before Easter (March 28, 2027).
- Memorial Day: Monday, May 31, after the last day of school.
Spring break
Spring break is Monday, March 15, to Friday, March 19, 2027, in both districts, and everyone returns Monday, March 22. The days before it differ:
- Duval students are off Thursday, March 11, and Friday, March 12. That gives Duval families an 11-day break, from Thursday, March 11, through Sunday, March 21. The district added the Thursday this year. It used to close only on the Friday before spring break.
- St. Johns students are off Friday, March 12 (a teacher planning day). Thursday, March 11, is a regular school day and the end of the third quarter. That makes a 10-day break, from Friday, March 12, through Sunday, March 21.
Then both districts are off again the following Friday, March 26.
The last day of school
Friday, May 28, 2027, in both districts.
That date could move in Duval if storms close schools and the district uses up its weather days (see below).
Weather days and hurricane make-up days
This is where the two districts handle things differently.
Duval County: four weather days, all in the spring
- Monday, March 29
- Monday, April 26
- Tuesday, June 1
- Wednesday, June 2
If schools close for bad weather, the district turns these into regular school days in order, starting with March 29. If they aren't needed, they stay days off for students.
So, for now, March 29 and April 26 are days off for Duval students. But they aren't guaranteed. Don't book nonrefundable trips on them until late in the school year. June 1 and 2 are after the last day of school and would only be used if many days are lost.
St. Johns County: hurricane make-up days marked on the calendar
The St. Johns calendar circles certain days off as possible hurricane make-up days. If schools close for a storm, some of those days can become school days. The ones still ahead this year are:
- Monday, Nov. 23 (Thanksgiving week)
- Tuesday, Nov. 24 (Thanksgiving week)
- Monday, Jan. 4 (the teacher planning day after winter break)
If St. Johns closes for weather this fall, watch for an announcement about whether any of those days will be used.
By the numbers
- 180: student days on the St. Johns calendar, split into quarters of 43, 43, 45 and 49 days
- 5: days off Thanksgiving week in both districts
- 4: weather days on the Duval calendar
- Aug. 10, 2026: first day of school in both districts
- May 28, 2027: last day of school in both districts
What about other districts?
Clay County, Nassau County and private and charter schools set their own calendars. Many charter schools in Duval follow the district calendar, but not all of them. Check with your child's school.
