Jacksonville, Florida, has two cruise lines sailing from JAXPORT in 2026: Carnival Cruise Line operates year-round Bahamas cruises, while Norwegian Cruise Line offers seasonal departures beginning in November. Travelers driving to the terminal pay $17 per day for standard vehicle parking, or $68 for a four-day cruise and $85 for a five-day cruise.

Parking procedures have changed. JAXPORT stopped accepting new prepaid parking reservations on June 22, 2026, and its current parking page instructs passengers to pay upon arrival with a major credit card.

But there is a discrepancy in the port's published instructions. JAXPORT's main cruise FAQ still says cash or major credit cards are accepted, directly contradicting its parking and directions page, which states that cash is not accepted.

The safest option is to bring a major credit card and confirm the current requirements with JAXPORT before departure. Here are 10 steps for planning a cruise from Jacksonville, including the costs, driving directions, boarding procedures and documents travelers should check.

Step 1: Choose between Jacksonville's two cruise lines

JAXPORT currently lists Carnival Cruise Line and Norwegian Cruise Line as its passenger cruise operators. Both sail from the Jacksonville Cruise Terminal, but their published schedules and itineraries differ.

Carnival Cruise Line operates year-round service from Jacksonville. JAXPORT describes its offerings as four- and five-day cruises to the Bahamas.

Norwegian Cruise Line offers seasonal service from November through April. JAXPORT lists four- and five-day sailings visiting the Bahamas, Key West and Norwegian's private island, Great Stirrup Cay, along with selected longer itineraries.

Norwegian announced the launch of its Jacksonville voyages aboard Norwegian Gem on Oct. 31, 2025. The cruise line's announcement says its multiyear agreement provides seasonal Jacksonville departures, November through April, through April 2028.

For travelers choosing between the lines, the first decision is whether the desired destination, cruise length and departure date are available. JAXPORT does not publish one fixed fare covering all voyages, so prices should be checked directly with the cruise line.

Step 2: Compare the cruise itself before comparing parking costs

The advertised cruise fare is only one part of what a traveler may spend. Carnival and Norwegian each provide booking systems that show their available itineraries and the charges associated with an individual reservation.

JAXPORT directs travelers to Carnival at Carnival.com or 305-599-2600. For Norwegian, the port lists NCL.com and 888-625-2784.

Because fares depend on departure dates, accommodations and individual bookings, there is no reliable single price for a Jacksonville cruise. A four-day voyage from one cruise line should not automatically be considered cheaper than a five-day voyage from the other.

Travelers should review what their booking includes, along with optional shore excursions, onboard purchases and other services. Norwegian's official pre-cruise guidance identifies specialty dining, excursions and spa treatments as activities that may be purchased separately.

Departure and return dates also matter when calculating transportation expenses. The port's published parking examples are based on four- and five-day cruises, but passengers should calculate their costs using their own itinerary.

The practical approach is to compare the total amount shown during booking rather than relying exclusively on a headline cruise fare.

Step 3: Find the correct Jacksonville cruise terminal

Jacksonville's cruise ships depart from the JAXPORT Cruise Terminal at 9810 August Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32226.

The terminal is located in North Jacksonville near Heckscher Drive and Interstate 295. It is not downtown, and visitors should not confuse it with the port authority's corporate headquarters on Talleyrand Avenue.

JAXPORT publishes directions from both Interstate 95 and Interstate 295.

From I-95, the port instructs drivers to take Exit 41 for Heckscher Drive, or Florida 105, head east and follow cruise terminal signs to August Drive.

From I-295, drivers also use Exit 41 for Heckscher Drive, then head west toward the terminal.

The port recommends entering the complete cruise terminal address into a navigation system. That reduces the chance of selecting a cargo terminal or another JAXPORT facility.

The exact arrival time should come from the cruise line's boarding appointment, not from an assumed terminal opening time. Passengers should account for their own driving conditions without relying on an unverified travel-time estimate.

Step 4: Calculate the official terminal parking cost

JAXPORT publishes separate daily rates for standard passenger vehicles and oversized vehicles. The posted prices include Florida sales tax.

Parking categoryDaily rateFour-day cruiseFive-day cruise
Standard passenger vehicle$17$68$85
Oversized vehicle$34$136$170

The rates are based on the amount of parking space a vehicle occupies. JAXPORT describes an oversized vehicle as one requiring more than a standard parking space, with its main directions page specifying a vehicle taking two regular-sized spaces.

For example, a standard vehicle parked for a four-day cruise costs $17 multiplied by four, or $68. Extending the stay to five days produces $17 multiplied by five, or $85.

For an oversized vehicle, the comparable totals are $34 multiplied by four, or $136, and $34 multiplied by five, or $170.

These are JAXPORT's published terminal rates, not a comparison with privately operated off-site parking services. Travelers should confirm how the port will classify unusually sized vehicles before arriving.

Step 5: Understand the new parking rules and conflicting payment instructions

JAXPORT's parking website states that it stopped accepting new prepaid parking reservations beginning Monday, June 22, 2026. Existing prepaid reservations made before the change are still honored, according to the port.

The updated procedure is to arrive without a reservation and pay at the terminal. JAXPORT says the on-site parking area has ample capacity and does not sell out under its stated operating arrangements.

However, the agency has not made its payment-method instructions consistent across all of its pages.

JAXPORT cruise parking homepageNew prepaid reservations stopped June 22, 2026; major credit cards accepted on arrival
JAXPORT Cruise FAQCash or major credit cards accepted on-site; reservations not required

The main parking page is explicit about credit-card-only payment, but the FAQ still gives the older, broader instruction. Both pages remained publicly accessible when reviewed Oct. 21, 2026.

This article cannot confirm whether the FAQ is simply outdated or whether a different payment arrangement is still available in particular circumstances.

Travelers should not rely on cash being accepted. Bring a major credit card and call JAXPORT's cruise parking line at 904-453-0975 if the distinction could affect the trip.

Carnival's own terminal information also identifies credit-card-only parking payment, but another section of its general help page still refers to paying for parking online in advance. That older instruction likewise conflicts with JAXPORT's June 2026 policy change.

Step 6: Know what the parking lot offers

The cruise terminal parking area is located next to the terminal building. JAXPORT describes it as a well-lit, monitored lot with security patrols operating around the clock.

Spaces are not assigned in advance. Drivers arrive, pay under the applicable procedure and park in the available area.

The cruise parking FAQ says passengers can drop off travelers and luggage before parking. It also states that a golf cart is available to transport passengers and luggage toward the terminal.

That may be useful for travelers managing multiple suitcases or accompanying someone who needs help covering the distance between the vehicle and entrance.

JAXPORT also provides accessible parking spaces near the front of the facility on a first-come, first-served basis.

The port says parking is available without advance reservations, but travelers should still follow their cruise line's assigned boarding window. Parking availability does not mean passengers can enter the terminal or board the ship at any hour.

The terminal is a restricted maritime security area, and admission to the building is limited to authorized personnel and ticketed passengers.

Step 7: Check whether you qualify for free parking

JAXPORT provides complimentary parking for certain qualifying vehicles under Florida Statute 316.1964. The exemption is narrower than simply having a disabled parking placard.

The port's current instructions identify vehicles equipped with specialized adaptive equipment, such as ramps, lifts or hand and foot controls, as potentially eligible when transporting the qualifying person.

It also identifies specified Florida disabled veteran license plates and Florida Toll Exemption permits as qualifying categories.

A standard disabled parking placard or ordinary disabled license plate does not, by itself, establish eligibility for free parking.

The port's main parking page states that the vehicle must transport the person for whom the qualifying permit or plate was issued. It also says parking attendants cannot grant exemptions outside the listed statutory qualifications.

Travelers seeking the waiver should review the official eligibility requirements before arriving rather than assuming that any accessible parking credential eliminates the charge.

For questions, JAXPORT directs cruise parking customers to 904-453-0975.

Step 8: Complete the correct cruise line's online check-in

Carnival and Norwegian both require advance passenger information, but their check-in windows are not identical.

Carnival says online check-in becomes available within 14 days of sailing. Passengers must complete it and select an arrival appointment no later than midnight Eastern time before their departure date.

The cruise line states that guests should arrive during their assigned appointment to reduce waiting. Those who do not select an appointment are assigned one, but that does not remove the obligation to follow final boarding instructions.

Norwegian opens online check-in 21 days before departure. Its guidance says the process must be completed at least three days before sailing.

Online check-in opens14 days before sailing21 days before sailing
Published deadlineMidnight Eastern before sailingAt least 3 days before sailing

Boarding documentsBoarding pass and required identificationElectronic cruise documents and required identification

Norwegian says travelers can obtain electronic cruise documents after completing the check-in process. Carnival likewise provides boarding passes and luggage tags through its online system.

The deadline to board is not necessarily the same as the scheduled departure time. Passengers should follow the specific final boarding instructions printed on their cruise documents.

Step 9: Prepare identification, travel documents and luggage

Carnival's official boarding guidance requires guests to present a boarding pass, picture identification and citizenship documents, including any required visas. The precise documentation depends on the traveler's circumstances and itinerary.

Norwegian similarly requires passengers to complete advance check-in and have the correct documentation available for embarkation. Its electronic documents contain important reservation and departure information.

Passengers should review their own cruise line's travel-document requirements before departure. A driver's license alone should not be assumed sufficient for every international cruise.

The cruise lines' online check-in processes are designed to gather passenger information before arrival. Completing those steps does not replace presenting the required documents during terminal processing.

Carnival also says checked baggage service is available only until two hours before the ship's published departure time. Passengers arriving later may need to carry their luggage aboard, subject to the final boarding deadline.

For Norwegian, the cruise line directs passengers to download or print their electronic cruise documents after completing online check-in. Those documents should be accessible during the trip to the terminal.

Travelers should distinguish luggage-drop procedures from final passenger boarding. A person can miss the required boarding cutoff even if the ship is still physically docked.

Step 10: Plan transportation if you are not parking

JAXPORT lists taxi and shuttle contacts, but its pages don't agree. The port's Transportation to Terminal page lists its franchised taxi service at 904-222-2222 and shuttle and special-needs transportation at 904-338-9595, Option 2. The cruise FAQ and parking FAQ list 904-999-9999 for taxis and 800-258-3826 for shuttles. Call ahead and confirm with the company before your trip.

The airport is approximately 12 miles from the cruise terminal, according to JAXPORT's cruise FAQ. That distance is not a verified trip duration, and actual driving time depends on circumstances.

Passengers should contact transportation companies directly to obtain prices. JAXPORT's reviewed pages do not publish a standard taxi fare or shuttle charge for this journey.

Carnival's general transportation guidance specifically says it does not offer its own airport transportation service for Jacksonville cruises. That distinction matters when travelers compare cruise-line transfer options.

Norwegian's broader pre-cruise guidance discusses transfers during online check-in, but passengers should confirm whether a transfer is offered for their particular Jacksonville departure before assuming it is available.

The port also notes that rental car companies operate near Jacksonville International Airport. Travelers should arrange transportation directly with the chosen company rather than assume every rental car location provides free terminal service.

For local residents who can arrange a ride, passenger drop-off may eliminate the need to pay for several days of parking. That comparison depends on the actual transportation costs for the household.

What happens when the cruise returns to Jacksonville?

JAXPORT's cruise FAQ says self-assist debarkation generally begins around 7:15 a.m., while general debarkation begins around 10:15 a.m. These are published approximate times, not guarantees for every voyage.

Cruise-line instructions and federal processing requirements determine when passengers can actually leave a particular ship. Travelers arranging pickups should account for possible changes rather than promising an exact exit time.

The terminal includes federal inspection facilities for arriving international passengers. JAXPORT states that U.S. Customs and Border Protection processes returning travelers through the terminal.

For passengers who parked on-site, the vehicle will be in the adjacent port parking area. Those using taxis or shuttle transportation should follow the provider's pickup arrangements.

The port also states that luggage lost in the terminal is handled separately from belongings left aboard a ship. Travelers should contact the appropriate terminal representative or cruise line depending on where the item was last seen.

The Jacksonville cruise checklist

Before traveling to the port, passengers should confirm their actual ship, itinerary and boarding appointment. The most common planning errors involve mixing up departure information, parking procedures and the cruise line's documentation deadline.

Before departureWhat to confirm
Cruise reservationShip, departure date and itinerary
Parking$17 standard or $34 oversized daily rate
PaymentMajor credit card for on-arrival parking
Terminal9810 August Drive
Online check-inCarnival or Norwegian's specific deadline
Arrival appointmentTime shown by cruise line
Travel documentsBoarding pass, ID and required citizenship documents
LuggageCruise line's current baggage instructions
AccessibilityParking eligibility and assistance requirements
TransportationConfirmed arrangements and quoted charges

Jacksonville residents have the advantage of sailing from a local terminal without necessarily traveling to another Florida cruise port. That convenience is one of the reasons JAXPORT promotes Jacksonville as a drive-to cruise market.

The most important practical change for late 2026 is the parking policy. JAXPORT's current parking page says no new prepaid reservations and credit-card-only payment on arrival, while its older FAQ continues to mention cash.

Travelers should follow the current posted operating instructions and resolve any uncertainty directly with the port before the day of departure.

How we did this

Jax Times reviewed JAXPORT's official cruise service, parking and directions pages, parking rates, terminal FAQ and transportation instructions. We also reviewed Carnival Cruise Line's official online check-in guidance and Norwegian Cruise Line's published Jacksonville service announcement and pre-cruise instructions.

All parking prices come directly from JAXPORT. The article does not estimate cruise fares, taxi charges, shuttle prices or individual travel times.

Conflicting parking payment and reservation instructions are identified rather than silently reconciled. Cruise schedules and specific boarding arrangements should be checked directly with the operator before departure.
