JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JTA bus rides cost $1.75 for regular passengers in 2026, a 31-day pass costs $65, and eligible seniors and students ride free. The regular bus fare is scheduled to rise to $2.00 on Jan. 1, 2027, after JTA approved a fare increase, according to Action News Jax on Aug. 27. Other changes to passes and reduced fares were reported in May as proposals, and their final amounts are unconfirmed.
JTA's fare page, fetched Nov. 3, lists options for regular riders, seniors, students, college participants, riders with disabilities and paratransit customers. It also describes an app-based Best Fare feature. This guide covers current prices, who qualifies for discounts and what is confirmed about the coming increase.
What are JTA's regular bus fares in 2026?
JTA charges $1.75 for a regular cash ride on its buses and First Coast Flyer, and passengers paying cash need exact change. The reduced cash fare is $0.75, and riders 65 and older ride free. Passes are sold through MyJTA, Token Transit or a STAR card.
The regular pass prices are $4.50 for one day, $12 for three days, $20 for seven days and $65 for 31 days. Reduced passes are $1.50 for one day and $32 for 31 days. Riders can compare these prices with their own trip patterns to see which option fits.
How does Best Fare work?
JTA's Best Fare feature applies to passengers who pay through the MyJTA app. According to JTA, riders get the lower rate once their single rides reach the value of a pass. Extra payments are refunded to the original payment method.
The feature ties individual ride payments to the published pass prices, such as $4.50 for one day, $20 for seven days and $65 for 31 days. Token Transit and STAR card purchases are listed separately from the Best Fare description. Riders who want the benefit should check the details in MyJTA.
Who rides free?
Riders 65 and older are free with a Florida driver's license, Florida-issued ID or Senior STAR Card. Out-of-state IDs are not valid, according to JTA. That is a requirement worth checking before boarding.
My Ride 2 School is free for Duval middle and high school students, who use a DCPS ID scan. Non-DCPS students can take part with a Purple STAR Card. The program runs year-round, and JTA also lists youth passes for riders 18 and under, for which photo ID may be required.
Who qualifies for reduced fares?
Reduced fares are available for people with disabilities and Medicare cardholders. They need an ID STAR Card or another transit system's reduced-fare card. The reduced cash fare is $0.75, with a $1.50 one-day pass and a $32 31-day pass.
These requirements separate reduced fares from the free senior fare. Riders should make sure their documents meet JTA's rules before counting on a discount. The reduced single-trip fare was still on JTA's page Nov. 3.
A May report described a proposal to eliminate reduced single trips. The August report does not settle what happened to that proposal. Riders should confirm with JTA.
What do college students and job-training participants pay?
JTA lists a college pilot with a $1.00 single ride and a $35 31-day pass. Riders need a college email and annual enrollment verification. The program called My Ride to Train has the same $1.00 and $35 prices.
My Ride to Train requires a program of at least 120 instructional hours or 8 weeks. The May 28 Daily Record report described a proposal under which a previously free student or job-training monthly pass would cost $35. That report came before an August review, and JTA's page does not confirm that every proposal was adopted as presented.
What are NAVI and Connexion fares?
JTA's page says NAVI is fare free effective Monday, Dec. 15, 2025. A May report described a $1 NAVI fare as scheduled later, but that is unconfirmed. Riders should check JTA before assuming either way.
For Connexion paratransit, ADA trips cost $3.00 each way, and TD trips cost $3.50 each way, paid cashless through MyJTA. Connexion Plus costs $10 for trips up to 12 miles plus $2.50 per mile beyond that. Additional passengers pay $4, and personal care attendants ride free.
What changes on Jan. 1, 2027?
The confirmed change is that the regular bus fare rises 25 cents, from $1.75 to $2.00. Action News Jax reported Aug. 27 that JTA approved the increase at a meeting in Jacksonville Beach. The increase takes effect Jan. 1, 2027, and route changes are scheduled for October. The Daily Record's May 28 report also described a $2 single trip for January 2027, and JTA's fare page has an "Upcoming Fare Changes" section for Jan. 1, 2027, so the $2 figure rests on more than one source.
The Daily Record's May 28 report described board-approved proposals that were then awaiting an August review. They included a $2 single trip, a 31-day pass of $70 instead of $65, and the elimination of 3-day passes and reduced single trips. Board chair Aundra Wallace said in that report, "It's not something that we wanted to do, but it is something that we've got to do."
The final amounts for passes were not confirmed in the sources reviewed. JTA's page has an "Upcoming Fare Changes" section dated Jan. 1, 2027, but its amounts are in images that could not be read. The proposed $70 pass and the proposed eliminations should not be treated as final.
How to confirm the latest fares
The prices in this guide come from JTA's page as fetched Nov. 3. The sources do not say whether the 1-day or 7-day pass prices will change. Riders can check JTA's fares and passes page or the MyJTA app for current amounts.
No JTA phone number was available for this story, so none is given. Riders who buy passes ahead of the January change may want to confirm what will apply. This guide does not predict final pass prices.
